Out of Area Patients

For patients living outside of our Practice boundary, we are able to consider re-registering you at Beacon Medical Group as an Out of Area patient but there are some differences in the services that we can offer you as we have explained below.

  • Due to the distance that you live from our surgeries, if you are unable to attend a Beacon Medical Group practice, a doctor will NOT be able to visit you at home.
  • You will be able to request a home visit through NHS 111 who will triage your requests and make arrangements for a local GP to visit you if that is indicated.  Please be aware that the GP visiting you may not have access to your clinical record and medical history.
  • The services and providers of Community Services often vary from area to area. Therefore, the Community Services available to you may differ from those offered and attached to the Beacon Medical Group
  • We will endeavour to provide routine appointments at a convenient time for you but due to demand, this is not always possible. Therefore, we may not be able to accommodate travel time or other commitments.
  • As with most GP surgeries, the Beacon Medical Group does not take requests for prescriptions over the phone, but you can request a repeat prescription through our website. We would ask you to note, however, that if there are any issues with your regular medication, you may be asked to come back later in the day to collect an item. All urgent prescription requests will need to be picked up from Plympton Health Centre or Ivybridge Medical Centre. We are unable to send them elsewhere.
  • Our Urgent Care Teams are based at Plympton Health Centre and Ivybridge Medical Practice. In the event that you need an urgent appointment, you will be offered a telephone call from one of our clinicians, which may lead to you being offered an appointment at any of our sites according to availability.

If you are happy with these criteria and wish to consider being registered at Beacon Medical Group, please sign the Out of Area Patient Disclaimer. Your doctor will then decide whether it is appropriate for you to remain registered here.

If you are accepted as an out of area registration this will be on the basis of 12 months.  All out of area registrations will be reviewed annually and if your health needs do change the GP may decide it is in your best interest to register with practice closer to your home address.

THE PRACTICE MAY NOT ACCEPT YOUR REQUEST FOR OUT OF AREA REGISTRATION THIS WILL BE DEPENDANT ON YOUR HEALTH CARE NEEDS AND DISTANCE FROM THE PRACTICE.

If you live in PL1, PL2, PL4, PL5, PL10, PL11, PL12, PL13, PL14, PL15, PL16, PL17, PL18, PL19 or PL20 postcodes, you will be told to register elsewhere. You must use the GP map to check if you are in the Beacon Medical Group area link as per below.
