From 1 September 2024, individuals turning 75, as well as those aged 75 to 79, will be eligible for a free vaccine to help protect against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

RSV is an infectious disease that affects the airways and lungs. It often causes cold-like symptoms, such as:

  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Sneezing
  • Runny or blocked nose

Eligible Patients

Everyone turning 75 years old on or after 1 September 2024 will be offered a single dose of the RSV vaccine to help protect against serious complications from Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

  • If you are already aged 75 to 79 years on 1 September 2024, you will also be eligible as part of a catch-up programme running over the coming months.
  • You can still get the vaccine up to the day before you turn 80.

If you are not yet 75, the NHS will invite you for vaccination once you become eligible.

How will you be invited?

We will be sending eligible patients text messages/emails and letters with a link to be able to book this online. Please follow the instructions from our communication with you.

You do not need to contact the surgery if you have not received an invitation to do so, all eligible patients will be contacted in due course.

You will received information from NHS England regarding your eligibility.
