Beacon Medical Group are proud to be working with our pharmacy partners, Day Lewis, Boots and Well Pharmacies to support improvements to patient care across the Beacon population –starting with asthma management.
If you have any questions about your asthma or if you feel your asthma is stopping you from leading the life you’d like, you can walk into any of our community pharmacy partners and ask to see the pharmacist. What’s more, you don’t need an appointment, some local pharmacies are open until 8pm and some also offer free repeat prescription collection services and peak flow checks.
Why not ask for a free 20-minute consultation called a Medicines Use Review? This is a great chance for you to:
*ask questions about your medicines and check you’re using your inhaler correctly
*learn more about the medicines you take and how they work
*discuss any worries you might have
*ask for help to overcome any problems you may be experiencing, such as difficulties taking your medicines or side effects
Dr Matt Funnell, asthma lead for the Beacon Medical Group, said: “Asthma reviews are hugely important in preventing avoidable deaths due to poor management of the condition but sadly the uptake isn’t where we want it to be.
“We appreciate that people lead busy lives and taking time out of your day to come to an asthma review can be inconvenient which is why we are proud to have teamed up with our community pharmacists to be able to offer such a flexible and patient-centred service. I would urge all asthmatics to make use of it.”
According to national charity Asthma UK, every day the lives of three families are devastated by the death of a loved one to an asthma attack – tragically two thirds of these deaths are preventable.
Data also shows that 1 in 11 people in the UK has asthma and every ten seconds someone has a potentially life-threatening asthma attack.
Don’t let your asthma manage you, take ownership and manage your asthma!
