Mental Health affects all of us!
World Mental Health Day is Tuesday 10th October 2017 and aims to lift the lid on mental health. Raising awareness that this is a condition that can affect anyone, at anytime in their life. In some instances people are living with lifelong mental health conditions.
Mental health can affect our relationships with our families, work colleagues and friends. Often there is a reluctance to seek help coupled with a worry about what others may think, which prevents sufferers from seeking support. According to a recent YouGov.UK poll 84% of respondents agreed that mental illness is as serious as a physical illness.
As a practice we really value the mental health of our patients and we have been working with various partners, including local charities associated with veterans and community groups to tackle mental health head on. We have launched a Social Prescriber in Ivybridge to help signpost patients to help from non medical partners. Our new Youth Page tackles youth mental health problems and we have been working hard to create awareness amongst our teams and training them to support patients who are suffering with mental health problems.
